Vila Sol Resort - everything you could want in one place

Vila Sol Resort is a purpose built luxury resort near Vilamoura on the edge of the area known as the Algarve’s ‘Golden Triangle’. It has everything you’ll need for a holiday without ever leaving the resort, which is probably just as well, as it can be a little isolated if you haven’t got a car.
It is a decent sized resort, set in an area of about 150 Hectares. The grounds are beautiful and typical of an Algarve luxury resort, are meticulously maintained.
So what does the Vila Sol Resort have to offer?
Accommodation is provided by the 5-star Vila Sol Hotel and apartments, townhouses and villas located in three resort village developments. There are plenty of facilities to keep you entertained and the resort is focussed on catering for the family, with a well-publicised Kids Club. There are pools, a golf course, a Spa, gym and tennis courts available for your use. Nearby is the beach club, which is for the exclusive use of guests.
The
Hotel Vila Sol is a 5-star hotel
set in beautiful grounds in the Vila Sol Golf and Spa Resort. It has 189 rooms including 49 suites. It has a couple of quality restaurants and bars and is close to the golf course. Many people who book apartments use the hotel for breakfast or on a half-board basis. The hotel is a little isolated, so if you want to get to Vilamoura and other places, a car would be very useful.
Other accommodation in the resort is made up of apartments, townhouses and villas in 3 village development located within the resort; Vila Sol Village, Palmyra and Sunset Villas.

Vila Sol Village
Villa Sol Village has 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and villas near the golf course, the Villas do Golfe and the Villas do Pinhal. Vila Sol Village is about a kilometre from the hotel. In this area of the resort there are 3 swimming pools, one of which is heated, and a poolside bar. If you don’t have a car or the inclination to walk, you’ll have to call the hotel reception to get a bus to get you to and from your accommodation. This can sometimes take a while so plan ahead. If you do walk then there are no paved walkways. If you’ve booked half board, you’ll make a fair number of trips to the hotel.
Palmyra Vila Sol
Palmyra Vila Sol is set within the pines of Vila Sol Golf Course. It is situated next to the new Vila Sol hotel and is only a few minutes walk from the golf academy, Clubhouse and tennis centre. Palmyra is a fully managed and gated resort, made up of apartments and townhouses.
Sunset Villas
Sunset Villas development is located next to the Clubhouse and Vila Sol hotel. It consists of 180 1 and 2 bedroom apartments and townhouses, with gardens and communal pools.
Things to consider if you’re staying at Vila Sol Resort
It is very annoying that there is no supermarket on the resort, the nearest supermarkets being found in Quarteira, a 15-minute walk away. So unless you travel out of the resort, a bottle of water, which costs a few cents, will cost several euros from your mini-bar.A car is therefore extremely useful, but if you haven’t one you can get the courtesy bus laid on by the hotel into Vilamoura. Unfortunately it doesn’t run very often, only a few times a day, and it seems to operate in one direction only. This means a long walk back or a taxi. While taxis aren’t too expensive, they are not always easy to get, particularly at the end of the evening.
If you do decide to use taxis rather than the courtesy bus, book the taxi yourself, as this will be considerably cheaper than one booked by the Hotel.

Swimming PoolsThere are a number of pools throughout the resort, at the hotel and in the 3 villages.
Vila Sol Golf Course
One of the best things about Vila Sol (in my opinion) is the 27-hole Vila Sol Golf Course, which gets good reviews from those golfers who have played it. It is a championship course comprising three 3 loops of 9 holes and has hosted the Portuguese Open twice. It also has a driving range and golf academy. Vila Sol Resort Spa
The resort has a modern and sophisticated Spa. There are some 20 treatment rooms, a Hammam and an Aquamedic pool. There are many treatments available including:
Weekly, daily, weekend and personalised programmes are available. There is also a salon, if you fancy having your hair done, a manicure or a pedicure.
Vila Sol Resort Fitness Centre
Near the outdoor swimming pool at the Vila Sol Hotel is the fitness centre. It is very small but has the latest cardio equipment. Also here are 2 Sauna cabinets and a Turkish bath.
Vila Sol Resort Tennis
There two tennis courts you can hire and lessons are available.
Vila Sol Kids Club
If you want to get away from the kids for a while (or vice-versa), the resort runs a Kids Club. It is run by qualified staff and provides safety and entertainment for your off-spring while you go off and enjoy yourselves.
Vila Sol Beach Clubs
The exclusive Vila Sol Beach Club is on the Vila Sol beach at Ancão. This is a 15-minute drive from the resort, but the hotel lays on a free shuttle bus service during the day. If you drive, there is a parking area for guests.
At the beach club, you’ll be provided with towels, a sun bed and umbrella and a bar and food service operates. If you want there is also massage, yoga and Tai Chi on offer. If you feel more energetic, there are also a number of water sports you can take part in. Sounds great, apart from some reports indicate the staff here seem to be a little inattentive and inefficient compared to those in the hotel
A little to the west is the Vila Sol Beach Sport for more active kids. There are water sports and other activities to keep them happy during the day while you can relax with a drink and a good book.
