Tavira is a beautiful town in the Eastern Algarve, about 30km east of Faro. Compared with the boisterous resorts in the central Algarve like Albufeira, Tavira is very sedate. It lies on the River Gilao and is full of history. There are twenty-seven churches here and the ruins of a 13th Century Moorish castle. There is plenty to explore, whether along the river or amongst the narrow cobbled streets. For beach lovers there is the nearby Ilha de Tavira with its long sandy beaches.

A renovated town house is located in the old part of Tavira, Rua das Olarias is a slice of genuine Portuguese life. Ideal for a couple or a small family, the house has 1 bedroom and sleeps up to 3. It is located in the heart of Tavira, in the old town, tucked away just below the castle.

The house has a Moorish-style doorway leading to a typically Portuguese interior, with the living room's cool terracotta-coloured tiled floor, acomfy leather sofa and an armchair. And while the bedroom has views, even better is the fabulous roof terrace, perfect for sun worshippers or pre-dinner drinks. There's also another terrace downstairs, with an outdoor shower and barbecue.

The house in easy walking distance of shops and restaurants, the nearest being only a few minutes walk, so you’re well placed for eating out. But while you’ve got all the advantages of a central location, it’s also well away from mainstream tourism.

And whilst the property doesn’t come with a pool, Tavira has a huge town beach - 15-20 mins via boat from Tavira Jetty.Aside from the sands, there’s plenty more to enjoy, too with a picturesque main square, lively early morning markets and quaint old churches.
