Quinta do Lago Golf Courses

There are two Quinta do Lago golf courses, which form part of the Quinta do Lago golf club. These courses are the North course (also known as the Ria Formosa golf course) and the South course. There are two other golf courses within the Quinta do Lago estate, these being the San Lorenzo golf course and the Pinheiros Altos golf course.

Quinta do Lago is a beautiful setting to play golf in, the estate covering some 700 hectares, the golf courses and village resorts nestling in beautiful pine forests in between lakes, and bordered by the Ria Formosa Nature reserve and the Atlantic Ocean.

The Quinta do Lago golf courses are both well designed and beautifully maintained, and are a pleasure to play for golfers of all standards. They are some of the most expensive courses to play in the Algarve, but discounts are available if you are staying in one of the villages in the Quinta do Lago estate. The discounts will vary depending on where you are staying from around 25% to over 50%.

You can also use one of the tee-time booking agencies to get a significant discount if you are not staying on the resort.

North Course (Ria Formosa)

In a beautiful setting, this 6,200 metre 18 hole, par 72 course meanders through pine trees, heather and lakes. Not a particularly easy course, it is a test for all standards of golfer. It has four good par 5 holes and several dog-legs where accuracy off the tee is paramount. Although the terrain is not hilly, there are some long walks between tees, and in the heat of summer you�ll be forgiven for hiring a buggy. Personally I think you get more out of the course and can appreciate its beauty if you walk, but that�s just my opinion.

South Course

Like the North course, you can�t fault the surroundings of the 6,488 metre, par 72 South course. This is the championship course and has been host to the Portuguese Open seven times. set in undulating hills and pine forest A truly wonderful course, ideally designed to test the scratch golfer, it can also be enjoyed by the handicap golfer. The layout favours the long hitter but correct placement of shots is needed to score well. Strategic bunkering, occasional water hazards and large, contoured greens are the main challenges. The signature hole is the beautiful par 3 15th with a long carry (190 metres) over a large lake to a well-guarded green set amongst pine trees. The 8th, 10th and 18th are excellent, testing par 4s for low-handicap players on this scenic course which is an enjoyable experience for players of all standards. This is a course that demands accuracy on your club selection as the greens are very wide and long.

Soft spikes only are allowed, and a strict dress code is in operation, as at most golf courses in the Algarve.

Quinta do Lago Golf Course Green Fees

Public green fees for 2007 are 18 Holes are �125.00 on the North course and �150.00 on the South course.
