which although only short, is laid out and maintained as well as any of the ‘big-boys’ courses that pepper the Algarve coastline. Holidays at Pine Cliffs, AlgarveDoes the Pine Cliffs resort live up to expectations as a luxury Algarve holiday destination?Well in terms of design and beauty it is first rate. The hotel itself is certainly no concrete monstrosity and is very pleasing to the eye. It was designed in a typical Portuguese style with architectural features borrowed from the Moors. The hotel is perched on a cliff overlooking the Falésia beach, which is renowned as one of the best beaches in the Algarve. The rooms in the hotel are spacious and well appointed. Outside the hotel, you’ll find the resort itself is a pretty large place, with extensive, well tended gardens and manicured lawns. Walking through the gardens, you’ll find a couple of large pools (not heated!), but at least they have great views over the Atlantic. There is also a heated pool for those less hardy. One thing that will not escape your notice, particularly if you come here in the summer, is the number of children in the resort. The children’s facilities here are excellent and so it’s a very popular place with families. If you have come here for a romantic get-away, then it might be best to come out of season or choose a different destination. If you want to venture down to sea, you can take the glass lift, which takes you down to the beach. Well, not all the way! It stops not far past half way down, leaving you to negotiate a fair number of steps down to the level of the beach. Of course you don’t have to use the lift, and can a longish walk through the pine trees and take the steps all the way down. Okay, unless you are loaded down with buggies and kids. Once on Falésia beach, the resort has a concession with sun beds and shades, and a selection water sports for those inclined. There is also a restaurant called the Beach Bar and Grill, which is open evenings for dinner in season. It’s great place to dine and enjoy the romantic sea views and sunset, but do book in advance, as you won’t be the only person with the idea. Pine Cliffs Vacation ClubSome of the resort accommodation forms the Pine Cliffs Vacation Club. This is a timeshare development, formerly known as the Golf Suites. If you are staying at the Pine Cliffs resort, then you are bound to be pestered at some point by timeshare sales people to take a 1-hour tour and presentation (more like 2+ hours!) with offers of a free meal or golf. It’s a bit of a shame this happens in a luxury resort such as this.Facilities at Pine Cliffs, AlgarveThere are plenty of facilities on offer in the resort. Most of these facilities are not free. In fact, once you have paid (a not insubstantial amount) for your room, almost everything else is charged for (apart from table tennis). Also some of the prices charged would embarrass the likes of Dick Turpin. This seems particularly true in some of the restaurants. However this is a luxury resort, so you shouldn’t really be surprised. It is worth being prepared for though.Here is a list of the facilities on offer at the Pine Cliffs, Algarve.
