Monte do Casal Hotel – small but luxuriousMonte do Casal Hotel is the result of two decades of work on an 18th Century manor house, near the historic town of Estói in the Algarve. It is a luxury country ‘boutique’ hotel, with individually designed rooms and prides itself on great service and food. It is a very private place and apart from August, no children (under the age of 16 years) are allowed to stay here. This makes it the ideal location to relax, indulge and get away from it all. Reviews of the hotel are usually very good and people do come back time after time. 
Monte do Casal hotel is a few kilometres west of Estói and about 12 km north of Faro. So, fifteen minutes after leaving faro airport you could be here for your well deserved holiday. Its also only about 14 kilometres from the beaches and being close to the IP1 motorway, is an ideal place to stay if you want to explore the rest of the Algarve.It is not a large hotel, having only eighteen rooms, but each room is individually designed. Six of the rooms are luxury suites with separate sitting rooms. Every room has its own private terrace, where you can enjoy breakfast. The Monte do Casal Hotel also has its own private villa which is available for rent. It has six bedrooms and is a couple of minutes walk away from the main hotel. It is set in its own gardens with a small stream, a pond, two waterfalls and great views over the countryside to the sea. It also has an infinity swimming pool which is heated. Restaurant at the Monte do Casal HotelThe hotel has an award-winning restaurant based in an old Coach House. Its style of cooking is probably best described as modern but based on classical French cooking. You can try the a la Carte menu or opt for the daily ‘tasting’ menu, which consists of five small gourmet courses. The food is very rich, and if you ate here every night of your holiday, you’d probably have a heart attack.Unusually, for anywhere in Portugal, the restaurant also has a full vegetarian menu.If it’s warm enough, take the opportunity to eat on the terrace, which overlooks the gardens and lit-up pools and waterfalls. If you’re very lucky (?) you’ll be able to enjoy the live music laid on (musicians not rock bands!). Gardens at the Monte do Casal HotelThe hotel gardens are extensive and well landscaped. There are two lakes, the Pine lake and the Spa lake. In the middle of the Pine lake is a, wooden decked summerhouse known as the Sanctuary, which you can use for sunbathing and swimming. Above the Spa lake is a beauty and massage facility.
