Luxury in the 5-star Hotel Vila Sol, but a bit isolatedThe Hotel Vila Sol is part of the Vila Sol SPA & Golf Resort, which is located on the outskirts of Vilamoura and Quarteira. It is only 25 km from Faro airport and the Hotel will arrange transfers if you want. The resort itself is self-contained and apart from the hotel, has accommodation in villas, apartments and townhouses in small village developments throughout the 150 Hectare resort.
Alternatively you can rent one of the villas or apartments associated with the hotel and use the hotel on a half-board basis if you wish and have access to all the facilities of the hotel.
The disadvantage of the hotel is that being on a resort it is a bit isolated from civilisation. Vilamoura is a short drive away, but it does mean you need a car. You can use the courtesy bus laid on by the hotel, but this only runs a few times a day and seems to be only in one direction. This means a long walk or a taxi back. Great views over the golf courses and Hotel gardens, and best to sit outside when the weather is warm.L’Olive Restaurant Mediterranean cuisine in a sophisticated restaurant with great food and service. More expensive than the Green Pines restaurant, but worth it for that special night out. Clubhouse If you like being around golfers you’ll like the Clubhouse. The terrace of the bar overlooks the 18th hole. This restaurant is open every day for breakfast, light meals and snacks, although variety is a little limited. Swimming Pool restaurant at the Hotel Vila Sol. This is fairly limited unless you like fast-food style. A bit disappointing and not cheap. Vila Sol Beach Club Restaurant This is found at Vila Sol Beach in Ancão. Prime Bar at the Hotel Vila Sol. This is a golf bar next to the restaurant, with views over the driving range and tennis courts. A ‘snack & salads’ menu is available until 6pm, and drinks are served until the bar closes at 1am. It also has two large plasma screens for special sports events. La Palmeraie Bar This is a piano bar and is a good place to go for pre-dinner drinks and enjoy some live music from the pianist. Hotel Vila Sol Beach Clubs At the beach club, you’ll be provided with towels, a sun bed and umbrella and a bar and food service operates. If you want there is also massage, yoga and Tai Chi on offer. If you feel more energetic, there are also a number of water sports you can take part in. However some reports claim the staff here are a less interested in your needs and more inefficient than those in the hotel A little to the west is the Vila Sol Beach Sport for more active kids. There are water sports and other activities to keep them happy during the day while you can relax with a drink and a good book.
