Holidays in Altura
‘Peace and relaxation’ are the by-words of holidays in Altura in the Algarve. It is a small and friendly purpose-built resort located in-between Tavira and Monte Gordo, in the eastern Algarve around 40 minutes or so from Faro airport. If its excitement and nightlife you are after from your Algarve holiday, then Altura probably is not the place for you. There’s not a lot going on in this part of the Algarve.
Altura tends to attract the more mature traveller who is after some peace and quiet, combined with great weather or young families who are after a safe and friendly place for the kids with fantastic beaches to spend their days. There is not much in the way of nightlife here, so it may not be suitable for younger people.
The beach at Altura is long and wide, with fantastic golden sand. It’s great place for kids, as the water tends to be a little warmer at this end of the Algarve. There is a beach bar for food and refreshments and various water sports on offer. Looking back from the beach, you won’t find lots of high-rise apartments and hotels, common in other resorts. The largest building seen from the beach is the Altura Eurotel.
Apart from a number of shops and bars, there is not a lot to do here. In the evening, what nightlife there is revolves around some relaxed bars and restaurants. This is where Altura excels, with some excellent quality restaurants, particularly if you like seafood.
A short drive from Altura, on Praia Verde beach, is an excellent beach-side restaurant called Pezinhos N'areia, renowned for its seafood. It’s a must place to go to eat and watch the sunset.
