Holidays in Figueira, Algarve

You’ll find Figueira, Algarve off the main EN 125, in-between Lagos and Vila do Bispo, but nearer the latter. It is about a 60-minute drive from Faro airport (80 km) and lies in the western Algarve.

Compared with the bustling resorts the Algarve has to offer, Figueira is s step back in time. It is only a small village, with little cottages and narrow cobbled streets, and unspoilt by tourism. It is near the coast, with Figueira beach being only a 20-minute walk away.

So what does Figueira, Algarve have to offer?

If you’re looking for accommodation here, then take a look at Quinta da Azureque. This is a cottage near Figueria Algarve, and is suitable for for lovers of tranquillity, nature and simplicity. It sleeps 4, having 4 single bedrooms and is available through Villarenters.

Figueira only has a few basic shops and a handful of restaurants, although if you need more, then a few kilometres away are the villages of Salema and Budens, which have more restaurants larger supermarkets. In terms of nightlife, then forget it. There are far better places in the Algarve to stay, if that’s what you’re after.

If you like beaches then Figueria beach is only a short walk. It is a quiet sheltered beach beneath the cliffs, on which stand the ruins of an old castle. You can only get to the beach on foot down the footpath through the cliffs. Salema beach is a few minutes drive away, although easy to walk to.

While you can get around using taxis and buses, it is worthwhile hiring a car, if you are staying here, unless you really just want to spend your time chilling out.

Things to do around Figueira, Algarve

Lagos is the largest nearby town, being about 15km east. Here you’ll find a much more cosmopolitan atmosphere, with plenty of good restaurants, shops, beaches and plenty of history.

If you fancy a game or two of golf, then the nearby Parque de Floresta golf complex is ideal. It is an 18-hole championship course, quite interesting and challenging.

There are a couple of tennis centres nearby. One is at Burgau Sports Centre, which has 3 tennis courts. Tennis lessons are available here. It also has a gym, two squash courts and restaurant.

Bird watching - The area is very popular and well suited to bird watching. Apparently it is on a migratory route providing great watching opportunities. Guided tours can be arranged.
