Eastern Algarve golf holiday

An Eastern Algarve golf holiday could be just what you are looking for, if you want to get a way from bustling resorts of the more commercialised resorts west of Faro.

It has only been a few years since the first golf course was opened in the Eastern Algarve. Now there are four of them (not including the 9 hole executive course at Colina Verde), and another two are being built as part of the Jack Nicklaus designed Monte Rei golf resort, between Vila Real de Santo Antonio.

The golf courses in the area are Benamor, just east of Tavira and the sister courses of Qunita da Ria and Quinta de Cima which are just a few kilometres further east. Castro Marim Golf course is a few miles north of Vila Real de Santo Antonio, the most easterly town in the Algarve, on the Spanish border.

Advantages of an Eastern Algarve Golf Holiday

Because golf is not the big draw to this area of the Algarve, you’ll find that the courses here tend to be less crowded and better value for money than their counterparts further west. While the courses are relatively young, they are very well maintained and have matured beyond their years.

You’ll have the opportunity to spend some time in ‘real’ towns rather than resorts, and soak up some of the culture and the beauty of these historic fishing centres.

In fact Tavira and its surrounding area is a great place to base yourself for your Eastern Algarve golf holiday. All courses are easily accessible from here. In and around the town there are a number of good hotels and apartments, and a little way outside town you can find some lovely villas to rent.
