Dunas Douradas - AlgarveIn between the larger resorts of Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo is Dunas Douradas, Algarve. It is a purpose built self-contained resort, built to cater for the insatiable desire for up-market holiday resorts in this area of the Algarve. Compared its neighbours, it is quite a small resort. It is only a 20-minute drive from Faro airport and ideal for weekends, if you are lucky enough to own a property here.
Dunas Douradas resort is set amongst the pine trees and runs down to the Atlantic Ocean. Accommodation is in low-rise apartments, towhouses and villas. It is very clean and well maintained, and feels a very safe environment for families to enjoy their holidays. In fact there is 24-hour security on site.
Facilities at Dunas Douradas, AlgarveThe facilities at Dunas Douradas are as you might expect for a resort such as this. At the heart of the village is a large swimming pool surrounded by Roman pillars, for some reason. There is a separate children’s pool. Open during the summer is the poolside bar, which also serves lunch snacks. Also in the summer there are barbeques and regular live music.
There are two floodlit tennis courts and lessons can be arranged or you could take part in one of the regular competitions. If you want even better tennis facilities, then you are only a stone’s throw away from the Vale do Lobo Tennis Academy The only Dunas Douradas restaurant is the Xenia Restaurant. It serves good food in extremely pleasant surroundings. The menu is International and gets the thumbs up from residents who eat there. It is open evenings for dinner if you fancy some fine dining.
There is a mini-market on site, which is pretty good for essentials, but you are probably better shopping at larger supermarkets in nearby Almancil for value for money and choice.
If you want to spend time on the beach, then it is only a 10-15 minute stroll away. There are some good beach bars, and the resort has a concession on the beach with loungers and umbrellas you can rent.

The final development (zone 10) within the Dunas Douradas resort is the Dunas Douradas Beach Club, with its own facilities. It has the best location, being adjacent to the beach. There will be 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, many with sea views and a central swimming pool.
Things to do at Dunas Douradas, AlgarveApart from the facilities that the resort has to offer, Dunas Douradas is a good place to base yourself if you want to explore the rest of the Algarve, being ideally positioned to go east and west.
Nearby Almancil, is a town worth visiting. It is a busy town, and the best place for your food shopping. It also has a good selection of great restaurants, from small local affairs to more up-market establishments.
If golf is your thing, then you’ll be surrounded by some of the best golf courses in the Algarve, with championship golf courses at Quinta do Lago, the Ocean and Royal courses at Vale do Lobo and five great courses at Vilamoura.
