Boavista Golf Course near Lagos in the Western Algarve

Boavista Golf Course

Boavista Golf Course is part of the Boavista Resort, a residential holiday complex which is located on a beautiful cliff-top location in the Western between Lagos and Praia da Luz.

Boavista is one of the newer Algarve golf courses, having opened in 2002. Despite this, it has blended in well with its environment and has matured well in a short space of time. It is a par-71 course at just under 5800 metres.

Boavista Golf Course Review

It is an American style course with well manicured tees and fairways. The greens are good , but are trickier to read than they look. As you would expect, there are a number of water hazards to contend with.

What makes the course are the good variety of holes and the fantastic views from around the course. The Atlantic Ocean can be seen from most holes, but as you get further out you can see all the way along the coast from the beach at Praia da Luz to the Algarve’s most southern point, Sagres. In the other direction are great views of the Monchique hills.

It does feel more of a golf resort than just a golf course, as villas flank a number of fairways. But don’t let that put you off. Instead enjoy the umbrella pines, fig and palm trees, which also line the fairways. The fairways are generally undulating giving a few tricky lies.

There are some good holes, but the most talked about hole is probably the par 3 6th hole, a long (190 metres) par 3 across a ravine to a multi-level green.

The course is suitable for all standards of golfer. It’s not the most difficult course you’ll find in these parts, particularly for good golfers, but it still has its challenges. This makes it great for mixed ability groups.

Boavista Golf Club Facilities

There is a driving range and teaching academy if you fancy a bit of game-improvement. There’s also a pitching and chipping area, practice bunkers and putting green. This is all in addition to the facilities provided by the Boavista Resort itself.

Boavista Golf Club Green Fees (2008)

For 18 Holes
€ 70 high season (Feb-May, Sep-Nov)
€ 50 low season (Jun-Aug, Dec-Jan)

Boavista is becoming more popular, so pre-booking is recommended.

Handicap Requirements:
Men – 27 and Ladies – 34 and you’ll need to show a valid handicap certificate.

While not cheap, it better value than many of the Algarve golf and is probably worth it, getting good reviews form golfers who have played here.
