Advice and information on using Algarve Taxis
Algarve taxis are available in all of the major towns in the Algarve. You can get them at the town’s Taxi ranks or phoning through for a radio taxi. If your staying in a hotel or complex, then reception will order you one. Taxis cannot be flagged down in the street (or at least they’re not supposed to be).
Generally taxi travel is quite cheap and a safe mode of transport, but there are a few things to consider.
A normal taxi will take no more than four people and a small amount of luggageIf a taxi has no meter, ensure you agree the price of the journey beforehand. Not doing so could end up costing you twice as muchFor longer journeys, always agree the price first, as these may be charged by the kilometre. You may also be charged extra if the taxi returns emptyPrices from Faro airport to resorts are generally set, as there is so much competition. But it is best to be sure you know what the price will beIn towns fares between different operators should be fairly standard
Algarve Taxi pricesAlgarve taxis are generally quite cheap, and generally around towns fares are only a few Euros. Tips are not obligatory but 10% usually suffices. Factors that will increase the price are:
Calling a radio cab, rather than picking up from a rankLuggage may be charged extra forTravelling at night, weekends or holidays
